Colour and Illusion

The major fall exhibition in Vienna 2024

8 October 2024 to
12 January 2025

For the first time, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien is presenting an exhibition on the extraordinary Baroque painters Rembrandt van Rijn and his pupil Samuel van Hoogstraten.

An impressive variety of major works by the two Dutch painters impressively conveys the great interest of the time in illusion and perception: the pursuit of realistic representation, the deception of the eye, the creation of illusionistic effects - Rembrandt's and Hoogstraten's scenes appear vivid and tangible and, even to today's eyes, still blur the boundary between art and reality.
